Finding the proper setup is a difficult proposition at best and
without a lot of track time it is even more difficult.
Max Wilson and the Arciero-Blair team had a difficult time.
For some reason the gearbox in his Driving 101 Cosworth Lola
refused to shift properly, choosing the wrong gear at inopportune
moments. This meant that Max had to deal with a car that wasn't
predictable.
This also meant a lot of time spent in the pits trying to solve
the problem-a problem that Lola engineers couldn't figure out-and
didn't get to run enough laps in practice to find a fast setup.
Consequently his quickest lap in practice was his 63.959 second
lap, run in the morning session on Friday. It was wet in the
afternoon session that day so there was no chance to improve.
The gearbox problems persisted into the Saturday morning session
and he was unable to improve his time.
