road racing circuit in Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico.
When the dust settled at the end of the third practice session
Wilson had turned the 23rd fastest time in his Redback Phoenix/Lola.
It was a good effort for the new team and driver.
The new circuit was very dirty and consequently quite slippery when
the cars took to the track for the first time on Friday. The circuit
got cleaner and faster in each session but Wilson and his crew had to
deal with handling problems and some mechanical woes and didn't get as
much track time as they wanted.
They responded well on Saturday morning, made changes to the car
and Wilson's time of 1:18.902 seconds, with an average speed of 95.998
mph, meant that he was the fourth fastest rookie in the field.
