HONDA GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY

12.OCT
Report from the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey Practice Sessions

Last weekend in Houston a mysterious problem with the shifting mechanism on Max Wilson's Driving 101 Arciero-Blair Racing Ford Lola caused the team to lose a lot of track time

Mysterious gearbox problems kept Max Wilson on the sidelines for much of practice this weekend at Laguna Seca.

Check out the weekend's Slide Show

The same problem occurred again this weekend, despite the best efforts of the team and Lola and Ford engineers to diagnose it.

Max would downshift and for some unknown reason the gearbox would then make an upshift. This causes problems under braking as engine rpm are used to slow the car. If it goes into a higher gear the car doesn't slow anywhere near as efficiently as it would if it were in the proper gear.

As a consequence Max again lost valuable track time and was unable to spend much useful time practicing for this weekend's Honda Grand Prix of Monterey at Laguna Seca.
