practice,
not seeking the fastest speed possible.
Nazareth Speedway is a difficult and demanding .946 mile oval and
there is no substitute for mileage for a rookie driver. To that end
Max ran nearly 240 trouble-free laps in the three practice sessions,
putting him in the top five for mileage covered in those sessions.
In the first session, Friday morning he ran 81 laps and had a
fastest lap of 21.813 seconds, averaging 156.127 mph. In the afternoon
session he ran another 114 laps and improved his lap time to 21.452 seconds,
with an average of 158.725 mph.
Rain on Saturday morning washed some of the rubber off the track
and in the shorter, final session before qualifying Max ran another 44
laps. His quickest lap was marginally slower than his Friday best, at
21.475 seconds and 158.584 mph.
