When the first practice
session ended Max had pushed his winnerB2B Ford Lola to the fourth
spot, with a lap time of 58.606 seconds for an average speed of
119.980 mph. Series point leader Kenny Brack was quickest with a
time that was only .378s. faster than Max.
The second session found no
gain in speed but Max and his engineering crew tested numerous setup
combinations that they hoped would put them in good stead for
qualifying.
"We tried some different
things this afternoon and it proved that the front of the car is
very good but we're having some problems with the rear. Now we need
to work on improving the rear for tomorrow."
A mechanical problem with the
primary car meant the Max had to move to the backup car in the final
practice session, Saturday morning, curtailing his efforts to go for
a quick time.
The practice sessions were
also utilized to test race setups and when the third and final
practice period concluded Max and the crew were confident that they
had found a good combination for the race.
