Practice for this weekend's Molson Indy Vancouver was definitely a
challenge for Max Wilson and his Driving 101 Arciero-Blair Racing
crew.
Although Max was able to improve his lap times over the course of
the four practice sessions, it wasn't until the fourth and final
session that the biggest-and most important-improvement was made.
On Friday and Saturday Max and the crew struggled to show their
usual level of comptetitiveness. When practice was over on Saturday
Max was only 21st fastest in his Ford Cosworth-powered Lola.
A long session with Max and his crew Saturday night led to changes
the setup on the car that made a vast improvement in the car's
handling.
The final practice session was Sunday morning and when it ended Max
had turned the third quickest lap of the 26 cars. His best lap was
just approximately half a second slower than the fastest time of the
pre-race session.
In full race trim the car was only .3 seconds slower than it had
been in the previous 3 practice sessions on Friday and Saturday.
In race trim the car is run with a much heavier full load so the
improvement in time was definitely a significant indicator that Max
and the team were ready for the race.
