Report from the Honda Indy 300 Qualifying in Australia

The temporary circuit in the streets of Surfers Paradise is lined by concrete walls and divided by numerous temporary curbs in several chicanes.

Qualifying well here means the curbs have to be attacked. It's hard on the drivers and it's hard on the cars. A small mistake placing the car over the curbs can upset the car massively and cause a significant accident.

Alex Barron made a small mistake on one of the curbs and it turned into a big incident. He crashed the car and was unhurt. The car was sufficiently enough damaged that he and the team had to switch to the backup car for the race.

Alex qualified in the 26th position.
