As is often the case for rookie drivers and rookie teams in the
ultra-
competitive CART FedEx Championship Series, qualifying was not the
easiest of tasks. Small mechanical problems and lack of time on the
track kept the team from being as quick as they would have liked.
"The car improved a lot from yesterday (Friday) to this
morning's practice. It was much better. Yesterday, I did not do too
many laps. Today, there were a lot of red flags on the track. So I did
not complete too many laps again," said Wilson. "Also, this
morning we had to do further changes on the car during the practice
and as soon as I went back on the track, some car had blown its
engine. Thus, we were not able to go back on the track to feel how the
changes affected the car in the practice."
"For qualifying, my best lap was my second and last lap with
new tires," he continued. "I think if I could have been able
to do another three or four laps, my times should have improved, I
don't know how much, but they could be improved."
Wilson's quickest time on the 2.104 mile circuit was 1:19.294
seconds, for an average speed of 95.523 mph.
