Qualifying was almost as
starcrossed for Max Wilson and the Driving 101 Arciero-Blair Racing
crew as practice had been.
It rained
prior to the start of the qualifying session but that didn't deter
Max. Running on a drying track, he quickly jumped to the top of the
timing charts.
Just as
quickly, his session was over. The gearbox failed and Max was forced
to watch the last several minutes of his session, sitting on a
concrete wall near the pit entrance.
During that
time he fell from the top of the charts to eighth in his session.
The circuit
dried even more for the second group, giving them much a much
quicker track on which to qualify. Max and his Lola Ford ended up in
the 19th qualifying spot for the Road America 220.
