Last year he was running in second place, with a good chance at a
victory, when he encountered mechanical problems.
In his first race with the Arciero-Blair team, Barron showed why
he was a good choice to drive the Driving 101 Ford Lola. Turning
laps faster than his qualifying time and utilizing only two pitstops
in the 65 lap race, Barron moved steadily through the field,
finishing 13th after starting 26th.
Frequently this event is marred by numerous full course yellow
periods, but this race saw only two. Thus the two stop strategy was
definitely the most effective way to run the race.
"The credit for today's good finish goes to the crew and the
team owners," said Barron. "They worked hard fitting me in
the car with only a few days before the race and they also called a
great race today. The mistake I made during qualifying Saturday made
last night very long for me and I am sure for the crew and Larry
(Blair). All of the recent dramas turned out good for Arciero-Blair
and it makes the long flight home easier and going into
Fontana."
