MILLER LITE 225

03.JUN
Report from the Milwaukee Race

When the Miller Lite 225--on the famed Milwaukee Mile--began it was obvious that Max and his Lola Cosworth were going to be a fast combination.

Although fast, Max's day came to an early end with a broken throttle linkage.

Check out the day's Slide Show

As soon as the race started Max was running laps that were just marginally slower than the leaders. Usually Max's laps were .3s. or less slower than those Kenny Brack and Michael Andretti were running as they led the race.

Max turned his fastest lap on the 28 lap of the race. This lap, 23.924s. (154.420 mph) would end up being the 16th fastest lap of the 225-lap race. On the 201st lap Dario Franchitti would record the fastest of the day with a lap of 23.277s., 159.608 mph.

Unfortunately 16 laps after he ran his fastest lap Max found himself coasting slowly down the back straightaway. The throttle linkage had broken. His weekend had come to a premature end.

He-and the whole Arciero Blair team-had shown though, that the new Lola Cosworth combination was a wise decision and should give them the opportunity to show their potential in the three upcoming road races.
