Max Wilson completed his first full weekend at an oval track with
a steady run to finish in the 17th position in this weekend's Lehigh
Valley Grand Prix at Nazareth Speedway.
Fellow rookie, New Zealander Scott Dixon won the race.
The Arciero-Blair Racing team had focused their pre-race efforts on
providing Max with a good handling car for the race. Their efforts
paid off, as early in the race Max was able to run laps that were
just marginally slower than the fastest cars in the race. At one
point-past the halfway point of the race-his laps were as fast as
the leaders.
Ironically, Max's biggest most frightening moment of the day came
after the race was over. Dixon didn't realize that the race was over
and on the cool off lap pushed his way past the slowing
Arciero-Blair Lola.
The cars touched wheel to wheel. Both drivers controlled their
mounts and made it back to the pits without further incident.
