Since the Molson Indy is run on a very tight circuit-the widest
part is only 61 feet wide and the narrowest is 28 feet-driving
sensibly for the full 95 laps is very important.
In the first 10 laps Max picked up eight positions, as other
drivers ran into each other or ran into the concrete walls lining
the circuit.
Running laps that were usually within a second or less of the
leader's times, Max was driving an intelligent and measured race.
On lap 32 Max's race came to a premiere end.
An ill-advised overtaking maneuver by Tora Takagi led to an
unwanted consequence for Max. The cars touched and Max's winnerB2B
Lola was out of the race on the spot.
"Takagi came by the outside of my car and clipped me,"
said Wilson. "I tried to hold my line and defend my position,
but even before the turn he was already pulling right, hitting me.
We went off the track and broke the front left of my
suspension."
Despite his bad luck the Brazilian rookie was upbeat about his
and the team's perfomance. "We had many problems that we
overcame this weekend and had good hopes for today. We need to go on
to Michigan next week, which will be the first time (at that
circuit) for me. We have the right package for the race the
Lola/Ford and I am going to do everything I can to quickly learn
about the track so we can have good results."
