Max Wilson Qualifies 26th for His First Champ Car Race

Arciero-Blair Racing driver Max Wilson will start from the 26th spot in his first Champ Car race, at the 2.104-mile circuit of Fundidora Park, in Monterrey, Mexico.

"The car improved a lot from yesterday to this morning's practice. It was much better. Yesterday, I did not do too many laps. Today, there were a lot of red flags on the track. So I did not complete too many laps again. Also, this morning we had to do further changes on the car during the practice and as soon as I went back on the track, some car had blown its engine. Thus, we were not able to go back on the track to feel how the changes affected the car in the practice," said Max Wilson.

"We left the change for the beginning of qualifying, but unfortunately it did not work very well and we had to go back to our previous set up, which took us a little bit of track time. Later, there was a red flag and after that, I felt the car was performing a little bit better. I only did two laps with a new set of tires. You know, usually, if you are watching other drivers you see it would take them four, five or six laps for their tires to come up to temperature. For qualifying, my best lap was my second and last lap with new tires. I think if I could have been able to do another three or four laps, my times should have improved, I don't know how much, but they could be improved," he said.

Max Wilson's best lap was 1'19.294 at an average speed of 95.523 mph. and he is the only driver in the field using a Phoenix/Lola/Firestone package.
