Max Wilson qualified Saturday
for the first oval race of his young CART FedEx Championship Series
career. It was a daunting task for Wilson, 28, not only because he
has never raced on an oval track in a Champ Car, but because this
particular race is at the Texas Motor Speedway, a track whose 26
degree banked corners have proven to be a challenge to even
experienced drivers this weekend.
Max Wilson on his efforts
today:
"Since we had some
problems this morning our goal for qualifying was to see if the car
was working alright again. Everything seems good with the car so I
am looking forward to my first oval race tomorrow."
Larry Blair, Team Owner, on
the strategy for race day:
"Texas Motor Speedway is
a power track. We are pleased to see that Max can run flat-out and
that the Lola chassis is good. We are down on horsepower with the
Phoenix engine so we are looking for reliability and fuel economy
for Sunday's race."
The Firestone Firehawk 600
will be Sunday at 2:00 pm CDT / 3:00 pm EDT and will be broadcast
live on ESPN (check your local listings).
