Arciero-Blair
Racing Driver Max Wilson Finishes 15th at Mid Ohio
LEXINGTON, Ohio (August 12, 2001) -- Arciero-Blair Racing and
driver Max Wilson returned to competition in the Championship Auto
Racing Teams (CART) race today displaying a newly added sponsor,
Driving 101. The FedEx Championship Series continued today at the
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in round 13 of 21 events.
Wilson, driving the Ford-powered number 25 Driving 101 Lola,
started 24th for the race that covered 186.447 miles. This is the
first year of CART competition for the young Brazilian; his
perseverance combined with the strategy and talent in the
Arciero-Blair Racing pit lane enabled this team to complete its most
difficult race of the year. Wilson struggled all weekend with the
set-up on his car and the race proved very demanding. Today was
difficult for Wilson for most of the race; he was having shifting
problems due to a mechanical short with a sensor. This sensor also
disabled the pit lane control speed button, making Wilsons stop
and pit lane speed even more critical. By lap 35 the entry was a lap
down on the field for the 83-lap event. The first scheduled pit stop
on lap 29 was performed without incident and Wilson continued to try
to make up the one lap deficient. On the second yellow at lap 50,
the team gambled and elected to keep Wilson out and not make a pit
stop. He was running in 18th and a third yellow came out which
enabled the Arciero-Blair Racing team to make up the lap. That
yellow put him at the back of the pack on the lead lap. Wilson went
on to finish 15th.
"It was a long race today; for a long time I was running
alone away from the pack and that can make it more difficult to run
that way and keep your focus," said Wilson. "I really
wanted to score some points for the team especially after we all
worked hard to make up our lap. The team called a good race and did
good stops and did a great job. It was good to be in the car after
missing two races. I kept working out and getting ready for this
weekend. A lot of drivers told me this was a tough track, perhaps
the most difficult and very demanding on every driver."
The FedEx Championship Series continues next week on Sunday,
August 19th at the Motorola 220 in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The race will
be on the road course known as the Four Mile Challenge and will air
on the ABC Television Network, 1:00 p.m. EST (Live). Check local
