Arciero-Blair Racing Heads to Europe for Inaugural CART Races

INDIANAPOLIS (September 5, 2001) -- Arciero-Blair Racing with driver Max Wilson will compete in the upcoming German 500 and Rockingham 500 in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series. The FedEx Championship Series team is getting ready to race at the inaugural events with its Ford-powered Lola sponsored by Driving 101.

Arciero-Blair Racing is excited to race in Europe for several reasons. Max Wilson was a Formula One test driver there before joining Arciero-Blair Racing. Team owner Matthias Czabok is German and was born in Nuremberg and lived there until 1998, then lived in Munich before coming to the United States in 1999. Engineer Mark Vallon and his family lives in Frankfurt.

Wilson said, "It’s nice to return to Europe because I have lived and raced in both Germany and England. After leaving Brazil, I was first in Germany for one year and then in England for four years. The European tracks will be different from the tracks that we are currently racing on. They will be new for everyone; we (the drivers) will all be learning the new venues together. Going to Lola and Ford will be good because we will see everyone who builds our chassis and engines; we will also be able to see the improvements they are making and their plans for the future. Working out and exercising will still remain important on this long trip so I stay physically and mentally ready to race. The last few races for our team have not gone our way. The series is so competitive this year; the times, speeds and the competition are close and tough. We are also still a new team and I think new teams struggle in the beginning. However, I am looking forward to the races in Europe and the four remaining races after that."

CART races on Saturday, September 15 at its first ever CART race in Europe. The race will be held at the newly built EuroSpeedway in Klettwitz, Germany. An inaugural race, the German 500 will be on the two-mile oval and will air on ESPN Television Network at 7:30 p.m. EST live. Arciero-Blair Racing will also race on September 22 in Corby, England at Rockingham 500 at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, a 1.5-mile oval. This event will also air on ESPN Television Network. Check local listings for both races. They will also air on the CART Radio Network and on CART's official website, at www.cart.com.

After the European tour, Arciero-Blair Racing will return to its homebase in Indianapolis to prepare for the remaining four events. The FedEx Championship Series team will compete at the upcoming events at Houston, Monterey, Calif., Australia and the final event at Fontana, Calif.
