Arciero-Blair Racing Finishes 16th in Houston

HOUSTON (October 7, 2001) -- Arciero-Blair Racing with driver Max Wilson competed in round 18 of 21 events in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) race today in the streets of downtown Houston. Wilson, the FedEx Championship Series driver, finished 16th after starting 26th.

After back-to-back oval events in Germany and England, the Driving 101 entry returned to United States for the final four rounds of CART competition for the 2001 season; three of its final four races will be on road and street-courses. Wilson, driving the Ford-powered Lola, started 26th for the race that ran 100 laps. Wilson and the Arciero-Blair Racing Driving 101 entry experienced shifting difficulties throughout the entire three-day event, eliminating any chance of setting the car up for qualifying and today's race. Wilson moved up through the field carefully in the heavy traffic. The demanding and tight street course of Houston did not allow for easy passing and drivers could be easily caught in mid race incidents. However, Wilson raced his way up to 16th after the Driving 101 team performed two flawless pit stops. The determined Wilson was able to race hard and set the fifth fastest race lap overall in the filed.

"It was difficult all weekend once we got behind due to the mechanical problem and we were not able to go fast," said Wilson. "We had to continue to push ahead and run as hard as we could to get the best results we could get. This finish and setting fast laps will help our team as we go ahead into the next race at Laguna. We have tested there before and I am looking forward to returning there. It will also be good to race at Larry's (Blair, team owner) hometrack and see his Northern California friends, businesses associates and family again."

The Arciero-Blair Racing team now prepares to race in Monterey, Calif. for the October 14th Shell 300. It is the feature event of the CART grand prix weekend on the permanent road course at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. This event will air on ESPN Television Network at 3:00 p.m. EDT, live. Check local listings. It will also air on the CART Radio Network and on CART's official website, at www.cart.com.
