Everything has been going really good for the Rayovac Blair
Racing Team at Indianapolis this month. I would like to be a little
faster as we prepare for qualifications Saturday. We've been running
the car alone on the track. A lot of the other drivers are getting
their fast laps in the draft so I feel like we have a pretty good
handle on our car.
On Saturday, a lot depends on the weather and what our qualifying
position is. If we draw an early qualifying number, it could cause
us to go back to the end of the line. But we have a lot of
experience on this team to make that decision.
I heard that it might rain on Saturday. Here in Indianapolis, it
seems the weather is more unpredictable than by the ocean. There are
so many variables going into qualifying, it's hard to say for sure
what we are going to do.
Realistically, I think a 228 will get the pole. I would be pretty
surprised to see a 229 but some of these teams have some pretty
special stuff for qualifying so you never know. A couple of them
have motor development just for qualifying and it's going to show.
I think there are four drivers who may run a 228. The other
drivers are going to be about a mile an hour slower.
I'm very confident in the car. We've made minor changes
throughout the week and they have all been gains. The only thing
that has changed on us is track conditions due to weather but we
can't do anything to change the weather.
Everything has worked out very well for us. We really pinpointed
exactly what we want to do with the car. We need to get a little
more "umph" down the straight-aways and I think that's
coming. I'm absolutely looking forward to Saturday.
