Fans Flock to Indy Racing Online for Test Information

First day of Test in the West draws 5.7 million hits to indyracing.com

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. (February 7, 2002)-- Indy Racing Online, the official Web site of the Indy Racing League, drew unprecedented traffic numbers during the first day of the annual Test in the West on Feb. 6.

More than 3 million page views and 5.7 million hits were recorded Feb. 6 at www.indyracing.com, an increase of nearly 400 percent over the highest single-day Web statistics ever recorded for an Indy Racing event other than the Indianapolis 500. The site offers complete coverage of the annual preseason test, which takes place Feb. 6-9 at California Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway.

"The number of fans viewing indyracing.com continues to impress and reflects the growing interest in the Indy Racing League and the wide range of information and features we are providing our fans," said Fred J. Nation, vice president of corporate communications and public relations for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "We expect the numbers will continue to grow as the season starts and as we add additional fan-friendly features."

Indy Racing Online offers complete coverage of all Indy Racing League events, including stories, notes, quotes, photos and the ever-popular and featured-packed Live Timing and Scoring of every lap turned on the track.

That extensive coverage will continue for the final two days of the Test in the West, Feb. 8-9 at Phoenix International Raceway. Updates for mobile devices also are provided each day, a new feature that will continue throughout the season. Visit Indy Racing Online to sign up for mobile updates.

While Indy Racing fans are enjoying full access to the Test in the West via the Internet, spectators also will be provided with an opportunity to see their favorite drivers and cars in action at Phoenix.

Fans can enter PIR through Gate 5 on Feb. 9 for all hours of the test, scheduled from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (MST). An autograph session with the drivers is scheduled for the lunch break, at approximately noon (MST).
